So, I just started watching this show,

It’s called “Solitary”

It’s a sort of reality/game show that premieres on Fox Reality. The point of the show is to stay in Solitary longer than the other 9 opponents, but in order to do that you have to go through certain “treatments”, some of which are quite difficult, without ever seeing or conversing with your opponents or even knowing if someone had just been eliminated (which means someone could have already lost but since they don’t know they have to either continue the treatment to the end or press the red button risking being the first one to do so) There names are taken away and they are given numbers. They are, at times, deprived of food and sleep while they are competing. The winner walks away with $50,000.

Something I just noticed while watching this episode, which I didn’t expect but should have, is the sexism in the show, not by the producers but the other contestants. They had one opportunity to speak to each other (while using Val, their computer host of sorts, as their voice) but before they got to ask their only question, the sexism started.

“Women don’t really change themselves in this kind of way, It’s not part of their nature” says number 4

“Interesting theory.” says Val.

After asking their questions, Val wanted to know what they thought of the other contestants.

“Number one sounded pretty fierce.”-3

“Number one seems to have a kind of bravado, like he kinda thinks he’s a big shot.”-4

“I think the more bravado the more manly, but that doesn’t mean anything”-7

All of these statements made about contestant number one, with the exception of the first one which was made by a woman, suggest that number ones determination and confidence confirms the contestants sex as a male.

Number one is a woman.

Not only is she a woman but she is also quite young, she looks about 24.

In fact 4/9 contestants were female (I kind of expected the majority to be male, at least it’s only by one!)

The competition is now 2 females against 3 males, although honestly, the competition is against you and your limits.

Everyone is taught that women are not strong, we are not competitive, and that we don’t have it in us, and that it’s okay because we’re girls and we don’t have to be that way. It’s time that viewpoint is eliminated!

By the way, the one making the most sexist comments, just lost and is the fifth to be eliminated :)

**just a little observation while watching the show.
